Overview

The Minelab GPX 4500 is a pulse-induction gold detector built for raw gold — nuggets, veins and alluvial gold — in the kind of heavily mineralised ground that defeats basic machines. It combines three Minelab technologies, Multi-Period Sensing (MPS), Dual Voltage Technology (DVT) and Smart Electronic Timing Alignment (SETA), to drive the coil deeper while still responding to small targets, so both newcomers and seasoned prospectors can work difficult goldfields with confidence. Six pre-programmed, fully customisable search modes and a range of selectable soil Timings let you tune depth and signal response for small or large targets. Standard and special ground-balance options, a GB Off mode for salty soils, enhanced iron-reject discrimination, a threshold Stabilizer, adjustable target volume, a built-in audio amplifier and an adjustable backlight give complete control day or night. It ships with both 11-inch Double-D and 11-inch Monoloop coils, runs around 12 hours on an external rechargeable lithium battery, weighs about 2.4 kg with the coil, and carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How deep does the Minelab GPX 4500 detect gold?
Depth depends on nugget size and soil. With its MPS/DVT/SETA pulse induction and the included coils, large targets can be reached to around 2 m, while small sub-gram gold is still detected near the surface.
Which coils come with the GPX 4500?
It ships with two 11-inch coils — a Double-D for smooth coverage in mineralised ground and a Monoloop for maximum depth and sensitivity on nuggets.
What battery does it use and how long does it run?
The GPX 4500 is powered by an external rechargeable lithium battery pack that delivers roughly 12 hours of detecting per charge.
Is the GPX 4500 suitable for beginners?
Yes. Six ready-to-use preset search modes let beginners start quickly, while customisable Timings and ground balance give experienced prospectors full control as they progress.
