Metal Detectors

All-round metal detectors are built for coins, relics, jewellery and beach finds — the everyday treasure hunting that happens in parks, fields, riverbanks and along the shoreline. At AO Gold Detectors we stock the machines that define this category: the Garrett ACE series and all-terrain AT range, the Minelab Vanquish, X-Terra Pro, Equinox 600, 700, 800 and 900, the flagship Manticore and CTX 3030, the XP Deus II and the American-made Teknetics T2.

The big choice is frequency. Single-frequency VLF detectors like the Garrett ACE 400i and Teknetics T2 are affordable, dependable and easy to learn. Simultaneous multi-frequency machines — Minelab's Multi-IQ and Multi-IQ+, Garrett's Multi-Flex and XP's FMF — read several frequencies at once for better depth, sharper Target ID and faster separation in trashy ground. The X-Terra Pro sits in between with PRO-SWITCH selectable frequency you change at the touch of a button.

Many of these detectors are waterproof — from coil-only models up to fully submersible IP68 bodies rated to 5 m on the Equinox 700/900 and Manticore — so you can work wet sand and shallow water without a second machine. Every unit we sell is genuine, authorised stock backed by the manufacturer warranty, with expert guidance in Arabic, French and English on WhatsApp before and after you buy.

How to choose

  • Single vs multi-frequency: choose a single-frequency VLF (Garrett ACE, Teknetics T2) to start affordably; step up to multi-frequency (Equinox, Manticore, ACE Apex, Deus II) for more depth and accuracy in mixed ground.
  • Beginner or advanced: the Minelab Vanquish 340 and X-Terra Pro are switch-on-and-go for first-timers; the Equinox 900, Manticore and CTX 3030 reward experienced hunters with deep customisation.
  • Discrimination & Target ID: a clear numeric Target ID and good iron rejection (Garrett's Iron Audio, Minelab's notch and 2D ID) let you skip nails and bottle caps and dig the good signals.
  • Waterproofing: pick a 3 m or IP68-to-5 m body (X-Terra Pro, Equinox 700/900, Manticore) for beaches and shallow water; dry-land models keep weight and cost down.
  • Weight & comfort: lightweight carbon-fibre shafts around 1.3 kg and collapsible designs matter for long days — check pack-down length if you travel to sites.
  • Coils, wireless & warranty: confirm the included coil, compatible coil options, wireless-headphone support and warranty (Minelab/Garrett 3 years, XP/Teknetics 5) — ask us on WhatsApp for the right fit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between single-frequency and multi-frequency metal detectors?
A single-frequency VLF detector (e.g. Garrett ACE 400i, Teknetics T2) transmits one frequency — simple, affordable and reliable. Simultaneous multi-frequency detectors like the Minelab Equinox (Multi-IQ), Manticore (Multi-IQ+), Garrett ACE Apex (Multi-Flex) and XP Deus II (FMF) run several frequencies at once for greater depth, more stable Target ID and better performance across coins, jewellery, relics and difficult ground.
Which metal detector is best for a beginner?
For first-time detectorists we recommend a switch-on-and-go machine such as the Minelab Vanquish 340/540 or X-Terra Pro, or a Garrett ACE 200i/250. They have preset search modes, clear Target ID and a gentle learning curve, yet enough capability to keep using as your skills grow. Tell us your budget and where you'll detect on WhatsApp and we'll match the right model.
Can these metal detectors be used on the beach or in water?
Many can. The Minelab X-Terra Pro, Equinox 700 and 900, and Manticore are fully waterproof to 5 m (IP68), and the Garrett AT series and CTX 3030 are submersible to 3 m — ideal for wet sand and shallow water. They include dedicated Beach modes to handle salty, mineralised ground. Dry-land VLF models (e.g. Garrett ACE) suit parks and fields but should not be submerged.
Is a metal detector the same as a gold detector?
They overlap but differ in focus. All-round metal detectors on this page are tuned for coins, relics and jewellery and will find gold rings and coins. For natural nuggets in highly mineralised goldfields, a dedicated raw-gold detector (such as Minelab's pulse-induction GPX/GPZ or high-frequency gold machines) is the better tool — see our Raw Gold Detectors category, or ask us on WhatsApp.
Are your metal detectors genuine and under warranty?
Yes. AO Gold Detectors is an authorised dealer and every detector is genuine stock backed by the full manufacturer warranty — typically 3 years for Minelab and Garrett, and up to 5 years for XP and Teknetics. We deliver across West, Central and North Africa and provide support in Arabic, French and English. There is no online checkout — enquire on WhatsApp and we'll confirm availability and price.
