Overview

The Vertex Vitran VX10 is a conventional coil-on-a-shaft metal detector built specifically for natural gold. Vertex's SFX signal-processing platform runs on an ARM Cortex-M7 and is tuned for high sensitivity to fine nuggets and stable behaviour in mineralised ground, with automatic ground calibration on start-up. Five working systems cover the job: SFX Target ID for a numeric metal reading, Graph Mode for signal strength, Pinpoint for exact location, Iron Reject to clear trash, and Deep Mode when you want the last few centimetres. Everything reads off a 5-inch 800 × 480 colour TFT with a seven-language interface that includes Arabic and French. It ships with the 8 × 12 in V10 coil, the right size for small gold in shallow and medium ground; the optional 12 × 12 in V25 coil trades a little sensitivity for coverage and reach on medium and large targets. Assembled it weighs 2 kg on a foldable shaft, so it swings comfortably through a long day in the Sahel or the Gulf, and the built-in 12.6 V / 3500 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated by Vertex for up to 6 hours, recharging over USB-C with the supplied 30 W charger. The housing is shock-resistant and dustproof, but no IP rating or coil submersion depth is published, so treat it as a dry-land machine. Vertex also does not disclose an operating frequency or a detection class for SFX — if a paper comparison against a VLF or pulse-induction machine matters to you, that number simply is not published. Two-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How deep does the Vertex Vitran VX10 really go?
Vertex publishes no depth figure at all; dealers quote up to about 2 m, and that number applies to a large, dense target in ideal soil with the V10 coil. On the small raw-gold nuggets this machine is built for, expect centimetres rather than metres — that is normal for any coil detector. The optional V25 coil is the upgrade if you want more reach on bigger objects.
What frequency does it run at — is SFX a VLF or a pulse-induction system?
Vertex publishes neither. SFX is the company's own name for its signal-processing platform, and no kHz figure or detection class appears on the official product page or in the user manual. It is a conventional coil-on-a-shaft induction detector, but if a spec-sheet comparison against a VLF or pulse-induction machine matters to you, that number does not exist publicly — ask us before ordering and we will tell you exactly what is documented.
Can I use it in wet ground or shallow water?
Treat it as a dry-land detector. Vertex describes the housing as shock-resistant and dustproof but publishes no IP rating and no coil submersion depth, so do not put the coil or any other part of the machine into water. Dry washes, wadi beds and dusty goldfields are exactly its element; river and beach water work is not.
Is the Vitran VX10 a good first gold detector?
It suits a buyer who wants a numeric target ID and a signal graph on screen rather than tone-only prospecting. Ground calibration is automatic at start-up so there is little to set up, 2 kg is easy to swing all day, and the menu runs in Arabic and French as well as English. Experienced prospectors chasing the deepest nuggets in heavily mineralised goldfields will still want a dedicated pulse-induction machine.
