GOLD LEGEND
Five search systems, one hand-held unit — GeoGround's long-range locator.
GeoGround Gold Legend is a hand-held long-range locator built around five search systems — Long Range, Free Mode, Smart Depth, Ionic and Bionic — using RF antennas and a Smart Sensor probe in place of a conventional search coil.
Overview
The GeoGround Gold Legend is a long-range locator rather than a conventional metal detector: instead of a search coil it works through two RF antennas mounted on a hand-held unit, supported by a separate Smart Sensor probe. GeoGround groups its operation into five search systems. Long Range uses the antennas to indicate a direction of interest, with the operator setting soil type, target type, a distance range the manufacturer specifies as 0–3,000 m and a depth range the manufacturer specifies as up to 40 m. Free Mode works the same way but lets the operator enter a frequency directly for a chosen metal. Smart Depth estimates burial depth from readings taken at different angles and directions over a located point. Ionic uses the Smart Sensor probe, whose LEDs change colour according to what GeoGround describes as the ion field around a buried target. Bionic first captures a signature from a reference metal sample, then searches the surrounding area for a matching response. The kit supplied by GeoGround comprises the main electronic unit, the Smart Sensor probe, a detachable wireless handle unit, the RF antennas, a charger, the user manual and a warranty card. Settings are made on a 3.5-inch colour TFT LCD of 480 × 320 pixels with LED backlight, driven by a 72 MHz ARM processor with 2 GB of SD storage, and the menus can be set to any of eight languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Arabic and Persian. Eleven target presets — gold treasure, gold veins, gold ore, silver, copper, bronze, platinum, iron, diamond, gemstone and cavity — pair with seven soil settings covering normal, sand, rocky, stony, wet, low-mineral and high-mineral ground. Signals are reported through a 3 W internal speaker or a 3.5 mm headphone jack, with a vibration alert, a 5 mm LED flash and a 650 nm / 5 mW laser pointer built in; power comes from a fixed 9,600 mAh lithium-ion battery charged from a 100–220 V supply. GeoGround rates the unit for use between 0 and 40 °C and aims it at prospectors and treasure hunters who want a compact, menu-driven instrument for surveying open ground before digging.
