Gold Hunter

The GER Detect Gold Hunter is a long-range locator built around a handheld control unit and a set of directional antennas rather than a search coil. The operator picks one of six target systems on the graphic display — buried treasure and gold; natural gold with veins, nuggets and underground mines; diamonds; silver; caves, voids and ancient tombs; or gemstones — then sets the front range before walking the ground. GER Detect specifies four selectable front ranges of 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 metres, location of a target within one square metre, and a search depth of up to 35 metres. In use the unit emits a steady tone while the antenna assembly turns toward a signal; the method set out in the manufacturer's manual is to work from north to south, then confirm the same point from all four directions before marking it. Depth is read by standing over the marked centre, turning 45 degrees and pacing straight ahead until the antennas swing back — the distance walked is taken as the depth. The kit ships in a shock-resistant carrying case and assembles without tools: the main unit takes the handle, the super antenna, a transmitter antenna and a receiver antenna, with the long-range antenna extending to reach the higher range settings. A 128 × 64 pixel graphic LCD carries the menus in German, English, French and Arabic, and a piezo buzzer provides the search tone. Power comes from an internal rechargeable Li-ion pack rated by GER Detect at 10.8 V DC and 7.56 Wh for about ten hours of searching, refilled from the supplied 12 V mains charger. The unit weighs 600 g on its own and 1.8 kg complete in its case, is weatherproof but not submersible, and carries a two-year manufacturer warranty on the main unit against electronic faults. It is aimed at prospectors and treasure-hunting teams who want to cover open ground quickly and narrow a large area down to a point worth investigating with a conventional coil detector.
