Overview

The Gold Hunter Smart is GER Detect's long-range locator: instead of a search coil it works through a directional antenna array — a super antenna, enhancer antennas, a recipient antenna and a dish receiver the manufacturer describes as a signal purifier — carried on a folding handheld unit with a full-colour touchscreen. Four search systems are chosen from that screen: precious and non-precious metals and treasure, diamonds, caves, voids and ancient tombs, and a dual-dimensional (2D) imaging system used to read depth and analyse the target. Before searching you set the target type, the continent you are working in (GER Detect adds this because it states that underground mineral frequencies vary from one region to another) and the front range, selectable at 100, 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 or 3,000 metres. GER Detect specifies a search depth of up to 50 metres and identification of 19 metal types, from buried antique gold, raw gold and gold veins to meteorite, silver, zircon, bronze, cobalt, coltan, mercury, copper and iron. Once a signal has been confirmed from all four directions, the depth routine returns a result screen showing a noise percentage, a target-confirmation percentage, a depth range in metres and centimetres, and a two-dimensional figure that is colour-coded — green and yellow for a target lying in soil, a red gradient for one likely inside a metal box, a blue gradient for one likely inside a void; the manufacturer advises re-running the search if noise exceeds 30 per cent or confirmation falls below 90 per cent. The 320 × 240 px full-colour touchscreen also carries an electronic thermometer, a digital clock, brightness and volume settings and a mute button, and the menu runs in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian or Arabic. GER Detect rates the internal 3.6 V / 18 Wh lithium-ion battery at 10 hours, and the complete kit — main unit, handle, antennas, dish receiver, mains charger and car charger — packs into a shock-resistant carrying case of 42.5 × 17.5 × 28 cm weighing 2.72 kg all in. The unit is weatherproof only, not waterproof, and GER Detect covers the main unit for two years against electronic faults, with the battery and charger excluded. It is aimed at prospectors and treasure-search teams working large open ground who want to narrow a site down to a small number of points before digging.

Key Features

Four search systems on one screen: gold, precious metals and treasure· diamonds· caves, voids and ancient tombs· dual-dimensional (2D) imaging for depth and analysis
GER Detect states identification of 19 metal types — buried antique gold, raw gold, gold veins, meteorite, silver, zircon, bronze, cobalt, coltan, mercury, copper and iron among them
Front range selectable at 100 / 500 / 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 / 2,500 / 3,000 m; the manufacturer specifies a search depth of up to 50 m
Extendable super antenna with enhancer antennas, a recipient antenna and a dish receiver the maker calls a signal purifier — no search coil to carry
Full-colour touchscreen, 320 × 240 px, with electronic thermometer, digital clock, brightness and volume settings and a mute button
Continent selector for regional frequency differences; GER Detect states the automatic system works over wet, salt-rich, metallic-rock and basaltic ground
Result screen reports noise %, target-confirmation % and a depth range, with a colour-coded 2D figure for soil, metal box or void
Six interface languages — German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic — and an internal 18 Wh Li-ion battery rated by GER Detect at 10 hours

Frequently asked questions

What comes in the case with the Gold Hunter Smart?
GER Detect supplies it as a complete kit in a shock-resistant carrying case: the main unit with its folding colour touchscreen, the device handle, the super antenna, the enhancer antennas, the recipient antenna, the dish receiver and signal purifier, a mains charger and a car charger. There is no search coil — this is a long-range locator, and everything needed to assemble it and start searching is in the case. A spare battery is offered separately as an accessory.
Does the menu work in Arabic?
Yes. The interface runs in six languages — German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Arabic — chosen from the settings icon, which also holds volume, brightness, clock and device information. The language can be changed at any time, and the same settings area carries the continent selector that is set before each search.
How long does the battery last, and is it covered by the warranty?
The internal lithium-ion battery is 3.6 V / 18 Wh and GER Detect rates it at 10 hours of continuous operation. It charges from a 90–250 V AC mains charger (USB output 5 V / 2.1 A), and a car charger is supplied for fieldwork. A side indicator flashes when the charge is low and the unit shuts down automatically before the battery is fully drained. The two-year warranty covers the main unit against electronic faults; GER Detect excludes the battery and the charger, along with damage from drops, impacts or opening the unit.
What ground and weather conditions is it made for?
GER Detect states that the automatic system is unaffected by soil type — wet ground, ground rich in mineral salts, metallic rock and basaltic rock — and adds a continent selector because it says underground mineral frequencies differ by region. The unit is specified for 0 °C to 70 °C and humidity up to 95% non-condensing, but it is weatherproof only, not waterproof, and the manual says not to use it in the rain. GER Detect also notes that the method relies on an ionic field that forms over long burial, so a test on freshly buried or surface-laid metal will not represent normal use.
