Overview

What separates the Titan GER 1000 from the rest of the GER Detect range is that it ships with genuine, conventional detecting hardware. The case contains two pulse-induction search coils — a 15 × 15 cm coil for small, shallow targets and a 40 × 40 cm coil for covering ground and reaching large buried masses — driven by a pulse-induction circuit running at 350 Hz with a 20 MHz processor, automatic ground calibration and its own 128 × 64 px graphic LCD. This is the mode most owners will actually spend their time in, and it behaves like a proper deep-seeking PI machine: expect coin-sized objects at roughly 40 cm and large metallic masses such as chests, pipes or caches at around 2 m, depending on soil and target. A separate magnetometer mode adds a second real geophysical method, reading the magnetic anomalies produced by ferrous material and buried structures. Alongside those, GER Detect specifies three further systems on the same platform: a long-range locator that the manufacturer states covers a selectable 500–2,500 m front range to 45 m depth, an ionic-field system, and a 3D imaging system that scans the ground layers and presents the result from three viewing directions on the supplied tablet. Those figures are manufacturer specifications rather than results we have measured, and the long-range and ionic systems should be treated as manufacturer-listed features. The unit runs from a 10.8 V / 54 Wh Li-ion pack — GER Detect rates it at 10 hours in pulse-induction mode and 18 hours on the other systems — with a 98 × 57 mm, 480 × 270 px colour touchscreen, a 2.4 GHz Bluetooth link, coils sealed to 30 cm of water and a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Everything travels in a single 68 × 50 × 30 cm hard case at about 9 kg.

How deep does the Titan GER 1000 really detect?
It depends entirely on which system you are using. On the pulse-induction coils — the part of the machine that is conventional, testable detecting hardware — expect coin-sized objects at roughly 40 cm and large metallic masses such as chests or pipes at around 2 m, varying with soil mineralisation and target size. GER Detect separately specifies up to 45 m for its long-range and magnetometer systems; that is a manufacturer figure, not one we have measured, and we would not want a customer to buy this machine expecting the pulse-induction coils to reach it.
What is the difference between the 15 × 15 and 40 × 40 coils?
The small 15 × 15 cm coil is the sensitive one: it picks up small objects — coins, jewellery, small nuggets — near the surface and pinpoints them accurately, and it works well in trashy or confined ground. The 40 × 40 cm coil trades that small-target sensitivity for footprint and depth: it sweeps much more ground per pass and reaches significantly deeper on large masses, which is what you want when searching for a cache, a chest or buried structural metal. Most owners survey with the large coil, then switch to the small one to pinpoint before digging.
Which of the five systems should a new owner learn first?
Start with the pulse-induction system. It is the mode with real, well-understood physics behind it, it has automatic ground calibration and its own dedicated LCD, and it is the one that will actually put finds in your bag while you learn the ground. Add the magnetometer next — it is a genuine geophysical method and is useful for mapping ferrous anomalies and buried structures over a site. The 3D imaging, long-range and ionic-field systems are additional manufacturer-listed features on the same platform; treat them as survey aids and always confirm any indication with the pulse-induction coils before you dig.
Is it waterproof, and how long does the battery last?
The search coils are sealed to 30 cm of water, so you can work wet sand, shallow puddles and stream edges, but the control unit and the sensor modules are weatherproof only and must not be submerged. Power comes from a rechargeable 10.8 V / 54 Wh Li-ion pack that GER Detect rates at about 10 hours in pulse-induction mode and 18 hours on the other systems; a mains charger and a 12 V car charger are both in the case, which matters on multi-day trips away from power. The detector is CE marked, ISO 9001 certified and carries a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
