Overview

The OKM eXp 7000 Professional Plus is the flagship of OKM's ground-scanner range, built in Altenburg, Germany by an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer. OKM describes its scanning method as GST/EMSR — a passive Electro-Magnetic Signature Reading technique in which the Super Sensor's Geophysical Phase Reader receiver measures changes in the ground's natural electromagnetic field as you walk a gridded scan field, rather than transmitting a signal of its own. The SuperSense System X7 lets you scale that sensor array to the site: the Super Sensor alone works as a single sensor pair, adding two Extenders gives four pairs, and the full set of four Extenders gives seven simultaneous pairs for wide swathes across open desert — while the narrow configuration still fits caves and trenches. Eight modes are on board: 3D Ground Scan, 3D VLF Scan, Mineral Scan, Tunnel Scan, Live Scan, Magnetometer, Pinpointer and VLF Metal Detection. For the 3D Ground Scan, OKM states a reach of 'down to 25 m (82 ft)'; that figure is the manufacturer's, and real results depend on soil, target size and scan discipline. Alongside the scanning array, the eXp 7000 Professional Plus ships with conventional detecting hardware you can put to work on day one: the VLF Coil X7, a 325 × 255 mm rectangular search coil on its own telescopic rod, which OKM rates for near-surface metal detection 'down to 40 cm (12 in)' — the mode you will actually use for coins, rings and jewellery, and for separating iron and bronze from gold and silver. Magnetometer mode is equally practical, designed to clear a scan field of nails, cans and other ferrous surface junk before you commit to a deep 3D grid, while Pinpointer mode narrows a confirmed signal to a dig point with a scan-line and signal-strength readout. Data moves over USB-C to the pre-configured Windows notebook, where Visualizer 3D Studio Professional Edition renders each scan as a 3D image for analysis. The 8.4-inch 1024 × 768 IPS-LCD touchscreen control unit runs about 7 hours on its replaceable 74 Wh Li-ion battery (roughly 3 hours to charge), works from -10 °C to 50 °C, travels in a waterproof shock-resistant Protector case, and carries OKM's 2-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How deep does the OKM eXp 7000 Professional Plus really scan?
OKM states that the 3D Ground Scan reaches down to 25 m (82 ft). That is the manufacturer's published figure, and it describes large subsurface structures — chambers, voids, big buried masses — in favourable homogeneous ground, not small objects at that range. Real reach depends on soil, target size and how carefully the scan grid is walked. For ordinary near-surface targets you use the separate VLF Coil X7, which OKM rates down to 40 cm (12 in). We publish both numbers exactly as the manufacturer gives them.
What is the difference between a 3D ground scanner and a normal metal detector?
A conventional detector transmits a field from its coil and beeps the moment metal answers back — instant, one target at a time. A ground scanner instead records a whole gridded field, measurement by measurement, and then draws it as a 3D image so you read structures, voids and anomalies in context rather than as isolated signals. The eXp 7000 Professional Plus does both: the SuperSense array for scanning and imaging, and the VLF Coil X7 for ordinary coil-and-headphones detecting.
Do I need the notebook, and what does Visualizer 3D Studio actually do?
In the field the control unit is self-sufficient: it stores scans and shows them on its 8.4-inch touchscreen, and Live Scan, Magnetometer, Pinpointer and VLF Metal Detection all work standalone. The included pre-configured Windows notebook runs Visualizer 3D Studio Professional Edition, which is where a completed scan is properly analysed — rotating the 3D image, changing colour scales and filters, and comparing scan fields before you decide where to dig. Data transfers over USB-C.
Is it really made in Germany, and what does the warranty cover?
Yes — OKM is a German manufacturer based in Altenburg and states that the eXp 7000 Professional Plus is designed, produced and tested in Germany under an ISO 9001-certified quality-management system. Note that ISO 9001 certifies how the device is built, not how deep it detects. The unit carries OKM's 2-year manufacturer warranty and ships with a multilingual menu and manual; we supply it from Dubai with full documentation.
