Overview

The Rover C4 is OKM's portable mid-range 3D ground scanner, made in Germany around a 1.5 kg touchscreen control unit and two interchangeable SCMI-15-D probes. What most owners use daily is the live detection. In Magnetometer mode the scanner responds in real time to ferrous items near the surface — nails, screws, cans, wire — so you can clear a field of modern rubbish before committing to a full scan. In Pinpointer mode, which requires the Super Sensor, it narrows down coins, rings, jewellery and small artefacts before you dig. Both probes carry OKM's LED Orbit ring, which lights in different colours during the sweep to separate metal responses from voids, giving an immediate indication in the field without waiting for software. 3D Ground Scan is the recording mode: you walk parallel or zigzag scan lines across a marked-out field while the control unit logs data to 4 GB of internal memory at 1024 values per second with 16-bit resolution, then sends it over Bluetooth 5.1 to the supplied pre-configured Windows notebook. Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition turns that data into a colour-coded 3D image and estimates the position, depth and size of anomalies, so a field can be re-analysed without going back to site. The fourth mode, Mineral Scan, also needs the Super Sensor and is aimed at reading natural mineral and gold-bearing ground structures rather than discrete metal targets. On range, OKM states only that customers have found objects "down to 25 m (82 ft) deep" — that is a customer report, not a measured specification, and real depth depends entirely on target size, soil conditions and operator technique. The menu runs in eleven languages including Arabic, English and French, the unit is rated from −10 °C to 60 °C, and the complete kit ships in a waterproof, shock-resistant case with a 2-year OKM warranty.

Does the Rover C4 really detect to 25 metres?
OKM's exact wording is that with this technology customers found objects down to 25 m (82 ft) deep. That is a customer report, not a measured laboratory specification, and we pass it on as the manufacturer states it rather than as a guarantee. In practice, useful results depend on the size and shape of the target, how conductive it is, the mineralisation of the soil and how carefully the scan field is walked. Large voids, tombs and buried structures are what this class of scanner is built to image; a single small coin at extreme depth is not.
What is the difference between the Standard Probe and the Super Sensor?
Both use OKM's SCMI-15-D sensor technology and both carry the LED Orbit indicator, but they are not interchangeable in function. The Standard Probe (0.4 kg, 445 mm) clips straight onto the control unit for a light, one-piece walking setup and covers 3D Ground Scan and Magnetometer. The Super Sensor (0.9 kg, 960 mm) connects by cable, gives higher 3D scan resolution, and is the only probe that enables Pinpointer and Mineral Scan. Both are supplied with the Rover C4, so you can switch depending on whether you want speed and portability or full mode coverage.
Is the Rover C4 a metal detector I can sweep like a normal coil detector?
Not in the conventional sense. The Rover C4 is a 3D ground scanner: no VLF or pulse-induction search coil is supplied and there is no conductivity target ID or notch discrimination as you would find on a Minelab or Garrett coil machine. What it does give you live in the field is Magnetometer mode, which reacts in real time to shallow ferrous items, and Pinpointer mode with the Super Sensor for narrowing down small targets before digging — plus the LED Orbit colour indication. Many owners pair it with a conventional VLF or PI detector: the Rover C4 finds and images the anomaly, the coil detector confirms and recovers it.
Do I need my own computer to use it, and what does the software do?
No — a pre-configured Windows notebook is included in the delivery scope, along with a USB flash drive carrying Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition, so the kit is ready to work out of the case. The control unit stores scans in 4 GB of internal memory and sends them to the notebook over Bluetooth 5.1 at up to 1 Mbps within roughly 10 m. Visualizer 3D Studio then renders the field as a colour-coded 3D image and estimates the position, depth and dimensions of each anomaly, and because the raw data is saved you can re-analyse a field from home rather than re-surveying the site. Magnetometer and Pinpointer results are read live on the control unit and need no computer at all.
