Overview

The Quantum Lite is Vertex's compact ground-scanning platform, built by Vertex Detectors GmbH in Meppen, Germany. The sensor it ships with is the ASU V35 Active Sensing Unit: you set a survey grid of three to nine rows and columns, walk it manually or automatically in straight lines or zigzag, and the unit paints a colour-coded 2D map on the 5-inch 480 × 800 TFT — blue for cavities, purple for precious metal, red for general metal, green for undisturbed ground. That grid then converts into a rotatable 3D model with a per-point depth analysis tool and a zoom. A separate Live Scan mode drops the grid entirely and reports Target ID and target colour in real time as you walk, backed by a graphical trace that rises yellow above the zero line for precious metals and falls red below it for non-precious ones. Calibration is a guided routine — choose your soil type, hold the unit about 10 cm off the ground, wait for the counter to reach 100% — and sensitivity and gain are adjusted independently. Every V35 scan can be archived inside the detector with its date and time for later review. What makes the Quantum Lite worth owning as a detector, and not only as a scanner, is that it accepts genuine induction search coils. The V10 is a 30 × 20 cm DD elliptical aimed at small and medium targets and at low-conductivity gold; the V25 is a 33 cm coil for larger, deeper masses. Both are sold separately, and fitting either one switches the Quantum Lite into SFX coil mode with Graph, Target ID and Pinpointer — ordinary swing-and-listen detecting that you can verify for yourself on a buried test target. On depth we will be straight with you: Vertex publishes no depth rating for this model, neither on the product page nor anywhere in the 40-page manual, and we do not repeat the headline figures that circulate on third-party spec sheets. With a coil fitted, plan on coin-sized targets inside roughly 25 cm and large buried masses out to something in the order of a metre and a half in cooperative ground. The detector weighs 3 kg, folds to 82 × 39 × 13.5 cm, runs on a detachable 12.6 V / 3500 mAh battery that the manufacturer states will give more than six hours per charge, fast-charges over 65 W USB-C, speaks seven interface languages including Arabic, and carries a two-year manufacturer warranty from the invoice date.

Key Features

Takes genuine induction search coils — the V10 DD elliptical (30 × 20 cm) and the V25 (33 cm), sold separately — which unlock SFX coil mode with Graph, Target ID and Pinpointer
ASU V35 Active Sensing Unit builds a colour-coded 2D grid map, then converts it into a rotatable 3D model with per-point depth analysis and zoom
Live Scan mode searches without a grid: real-time Target ID and colour classification while you walk the ground
Target ID scale from -90 to +90 — gold and gold nuggets typically read 40 to 75, silver and chromium 75 to 90, foil and non-precious metal below zero
Colour reading at a glance: blue for cavities and voids, purple or yellow for precious metal, red for general metal, green for natural ground
Guided ground calibration by soil type — sand, rock, clay, mineralised, wet or saline — with independent sensitivity and gain, an iron-rejection filter and a Deep Search mode that ignores shallow signals
Configurable survey grid of 3 to 9 rows and columns, manual or automatic, one-directional or zigzag, starting left or right, with every V35 scan archived by date and time
5-inch colour TFT (480 × 800) on an ARM Cortex-M7 processor, 7 interface languages including Arabic, and a detachable 12.6 V / 3500 mAh battery — the manufacturer states 6+ hours — with 65 W USB-C PD fast charging

Frequently asked questions

Does the Quantum Lite come with a search coil?
No. It ships with the ASU V35 Active Sensing Unit, which is the imaging sensor. The V10 (30 × 20 cm DD elliptical) and the V25 (33 cm) are separate upgrades, and fitting either one switches the detector into SFX coil mode with Graph, Target ID and Pinpointer. If you want conventional swing-and-listen detecting alongside the ground imaging, add a coil at the same time as the detector — the V10 for small and medium targets and low-conductivity gold, the V25 for larger, deeper masses. The VX100 pinpointer and the RSPU are also separate.
How deep does it really go?
Vertex publishes no depth rating for the Quantum Lite — there is no figure on the official product page and none anywhere in the 40-page manual. We therefore do not quote the headline depths that appear on some third-party spec sheets. Judge it on what the hardware is: with a V10 or V25 coil fitted it behaves like a conventional coil detector, so plan on coin-sized targets within roughly 25 cm and large buried masses out to around a metre and a half in cooperative ground. Depth on any detector falls away sharply with small targets, awkward orientation, heavy mineralisation and dry or salty soil.
What do the Target ID numbers and the screen colours mean?
According to the Vertex manual, Target ID runs from -90 to +90: values from 40 to 75 correspond to gold, gold nuggets and zinc; 75 to 90 to silver, chromium and large aluminium; 0 to 40 to copper, bronze and precious alloys; and below zero to non-precious metals, foil and tin sheet. The colour indicators read blue for cavities, yellow or purple for precious metals, red for general metal and green for undisturbed ground. Vertex notes that the number shifts with alloy, size and shape, so treat the ID as a hint rather than a verdict and confirm with a second pass from another angle before you dig.
How do I set it up on my own ground and check it is working?
Start with the guided calibration: pick your soil type from the list, hold the unit about 10 cm above the ground and wait for the counter to reach 100%, then set sensitivity and gain — lower both if mineralisation or nearby power lines are producing false signals. The manufacturer also advises keeping phones, watches and jewellery away from the search area and leaving at least 100 m between two detectors in use. To prove it to yourself, fit a V10 or V25 coil and bury a known target at a measured depth in your own ground: coil detecting gives you an honest, repeatable test that ground imaging alone does not. The detector is covered by a two-year Vertex warranty from the invoice date, and Vertex hosts the manual and product registration on its own site.
