Overview

The Vertex Quantum VX900 is built around hardware you physically swing over the ground. Two induction search coils run on Vertex's SFX signal-processing platform: the V10 at 8 × 12 in, which the manufacturer positions for natural gold nuggets, small metallic objects and low-response targets, and the V25 at 12 × 12 in for wider ground coverage and stronger response on medium and large targets. Vertex publishes no numeric depth table for either coil on its official product page, so we give you our own field guidance instead: expect roughly 30 cm on a coin-sized target and around 1.5 m on a large buried mass in cooperative soil, less in heavily mineralised laterite. SFX supplies numeric Target ID values, a Graph Mode signal display, Pinpoint, Iron Reject and a Deep Mode tuned for medium-to-large targets at greater depth — the everyday discrimination and recovery tools that decide whether you dig or walk on. A VX100 pinpointer is included for locating the target inside the hole. Above the coils sits the V35 ASU, a 13 × 17.5 in active sensing unit that Vertex pairs with Live Scan, 3D Ground Imaging and SFX 2D Imaging to build a rotatable subsurface picture with size, shape and depth reporting per target. Everything runs from one control unit with a 5-inch 480 × 800 colour TFT screen, an ARM Cortex-M7 processor and a seven-language interface including Arabic, powered by a detachable 12.6 V / 3500 mAh lithium-ion pack that Vertex rates at over six hours of continuous operation and recharges from a 65 W USB-C PD charger. The package also carries Vertex's RSPU remote-sensing unit with its RMS, ADRI and MDRI modes and a transceiver antenna: Vertex describes RSPU as long-range detection that isolates target frequencies such as gold, silver or cavities, and we list it here as a manufacturer-described feature of the kit. It has not been independently verified, no numeric range is published on Vertex's own product page, and we do not sell the VX900 on it — buy this package for the coils and the imaging sensor, and treat RSPU as an extra mode to explore.

Frequently asked questions

How deep does the Vertex Quantum VX900 actually detect?
Vertex publishes no numeric depth table on its official product page for any of the search heads, and the figures circulating on reseller sites contradict each other. What we stand behind is the coil hardware: with the V25 fitted, expect roughly 30 cm on a coin-sized target and around 1.5 m on a large buried mass in cooperative ground, and less in heavily mineralised laterite. Any figure you see quoted in tens of metres for this or any comparable package is a marketing claim, not a tested result.
Does the RSPU long-range mode really find targets from hundreds of metres away?
RSPU is a feature Vertex lists and describes on its own technology pages: the manufacturer states that the unit isolates target frequencies such as gold, silver or cavities and works over long range. We pass that on as the manufacturer's description, not as our own claim — long-range locators as a class have no independently verified test results behind them, and Vertex publishes no numeric range figure. Buy the VX900 for the two SFX coils, the V35 imaging head and the VX100 pinpointer, which you can test yourself in your own soil on day one, and treat RSPU as an extra mode.
What is the difference between the V10, V25 and V35 heads?
The V10 (8 × 12 in) is the small coil — Vertex positions it for natural gold nuggets, small metallic objects and low-response targets, so it is the one to fit when you want sensitivity to fine gold. The V25 (12 × 12 in) is the larger coil, for ground coverage and a stronger response on medium and large targets. The V35 (13 × 17.5 in) is not a coil at all: it is the ASU active sensing head that drives Live Scan, 3D Ground Imaging and 2D imaging, so you fit it to build a picture of a target you have already located rather than to sweep new ground. Swapping heads takes seconds, and operating weight goes 2.5 kg, 2.9 kg and 3.0 kg respectively.
What is in the box, and how long does the battery last?
Vertex states over six hours of continuous operation from the detachable 12.6 V / 3500 mAh PowerCore lithium-ion pack, recharged by the supplied QUANTRO 65 W USB-C PD charger. The kit ships with the control unit and armrest, all three search heads (V10, V25 and ASU V35), the RSPU unit with its RMS sensor and transceiver antenna, the VX100 pinpointer, AcuTone headphones, battery, charger, Vertex waist bag and cap — about 10 kg packed, in a case measuring 92 × 23 × 55 cm. Warranty is 2 years from the manufacturer, and no waterproof rating is published, so keep the equipment out of water.
